  1. I would never say that an accident like that could never happen again. Humans make mistakes. Certainly, with the improved safety features, it is far less likely to happen again.

    Kentucky Kingdom is back open with new management. I had a wonderful time there this season with my family. I'm not sure if it was the same then as it is today. Many of the employees are high school students. And their life inexperience shows in certain ways.

    Granted, if I saw someone dangling from a seat, with no feet, I'd probably run away, too!

  2. My brother was deathly afraid of the Intamin drop towers for the longest time (Though I’m pretty sure he still is) because of this accident, one of my friends had to do some hard convincing to get him to go on the one at Six Flags Great America. I sure hope this girl is doing well today

I worked at KK a couple years back as a bartender, I asked many questions to co workers who had worked there longer than me, one of her feet flew off and landed in the kids ride area, the new drop tower is in a diff location but not far at all from the original location, just right across from its old location, next to a funnel cake shop.

    Moments like this remind me of the Son of Beast Operators who paid attention to there surroundings and E-Stoped the ride when they saw a train of injured passengers, BEFORE THEY EVEN REACHED THE STATION! Good operators!

  7. She definitely should have not just run away but the fact this even transpired is just evidence of negligence from the park and insufficient maintenance practices. When you have a ride that lifts people to heights like this and then rapidly descends, I would expect every conceivable measure be taken to ensure the safety of the ride.

  8. This is why I refuse to go to theme parks. I don't care how good the machine is, humans inevitably get it wrong and when they do I don't want to be the one in the death seat or worse the still alive but missing a limb seat. No thanks, I'll eat my churros and play bumper cars.

  12. I worked at Ky Kingdom from 1999-2001 when I was around 16 y/o. It's insane to me that I wasn't even legally able to drive a car alone but they allowed me to work these rides. This video describes how the operator failed to press the E-Stop but they never mention how we were yelled at and threatened never to press the button. The maintenance dept was lazy and hated to reset the ride. This entire situation is heartbreaking and I still feel terrible for the victim.

  18. The cables were supposed to be 11mm, but they were found to be 10.6mm? So you’re tell me that the tolerances on this ride are so tight that less than half a millimeter could be the difference between fun and tragedy?? They seems like an absurd design if that’s true. The margin of safety should be AT LEAST an order of magnitude larger…

    last time i was at kentucky kindom was in 2018, which would have been 11 years after this incident.

  20. For me, I wouldn't blame the operator as much as the maintenance/engineers that neglected the ride's parts. For cables to be that incorrectly maintenance and corroded, that was a failure of the maintenance supervisors and engineers- that is their job. I work in EHS and you have to have a layered risk management system. Emergency stops are last resort. Whoever supervises and audits the ride should be fired. There has to be audits/Preventative Maintenance (PM) done to this ride and they were probably just signing off without doing due diligence. A continued lack of concern for maintaining small things will lead to small mistakes and big consequences. That operator shouldn't of been put in that position in the first place. Training/PPE is the least effective for guaranteeing for safety.

  25. This guy seems to be passionate when drilling us the proper way to report the incident. Also he points out the main things wrong with the other videos reporting on this, and then the operators and maintenance of the ride. I wish he would correct himself to where he would stop saying "E. STOP BUTTON" as it is lazy and sounds daft. Also it's simply wrong.
