  1. Gates : SUCKS
Jones: SUCKS but owners are wonderful people
    JOES: woefully overrated crockpot bbq.

  2. Listen I was in an episode of Food Paradise on the Travel Channel. I was interviewed at Joe's KC and made a that's what she said joke in reference to my giant Z Man. Those m-fers AIRED IT on national TV.

  3. Next time you're in KC, you need to go to Woodyard BBQ. The Triple P is amazing (the "P" is for pork: pull pork, ham, bacon), and you have to have some of their Burnt End Chili. Fun Fact: It's call Woodyard because WAY back in the day they started out just selling wood to all the other bbq joints in town. Even though they sell their bbq now, you can still buy wood from them to use in your pit or smoker.

  4. KC BBQ: White People Edition.
Next time try LCs and all the actual black owned BBQ places besides Gates. I've never even heard of Jones BBQ. As a local, this video was really just the places white people claim are good

  5. I've lived in Kansas City for 10+ years and for the most part, Kansas City BBQ is okay at best. You would have to be an outsider to really like Kansas City BBQ. For locals, it's meh. I live 3 minutes from Slaps and Slaps is good. Danny Edwards is good. If you're wealthy, Jack Stack is great. Kansas City Joes is good ( if you've not being paying attention, I keep saying GOOD and there is a reason for it ) There are a lot of places that are just there to make money and serve you the absolutely tiniest portions. Places you leave hungry from like Q39 and several others. Kansas City BBQ is full of itself and they all serve the same things. The BBQ in Kansas City does not have much depth. You can go from one BBQ place to the next and get served roughly the same options. If you've traveled for food like I have then you would know this.

  6. My all time favorite bbq place in kc is roscoes bbq on k32 highway in kck. It’s near jones bbq but it’s way better

  7. Rosedales, LC’s, Backyard Barbeque, Jack Stack, Plowboys, B.B.’s Lawnside, gotta check all those out too. KC has the best BBQ in the country, hands down. Anyone can find some version of BBQ here they will like.

  8. B B's Lawside and BBQ is great bbq plus killer blues , their sauce has a hint of apple and the meats are as good as anything in Kansas City, they also have great red beans and rice and other New Orleans staples, the brisket rivals Joe's, try it

  9. No one ever brings up the actual best spot in KC. It's BB's lawnside BBQ if you go to KC stop there if you want a real old school BBQ experience

  10. Enjoyed this. Everyone always forgets Bates City BBQ, 20 mins east of KC. Definitely our "go to" for BBQ. Won't break your bank like Q39 either.

  11. I was watching the vid and I was like this awesome. Then that little kid started talking and kept talking and I had to stop

  12. I went to Slaps and Q39 last week. Slaps is legit but kinda touristy. I wasn’t impressed with Q39 at all, overpriced, dry brisket (probably because he only cooks it for 7hrs) and very small portions. Q39 burnt ends were good but the portion was so tiny

  13. They missed this point: Kansas City BBQ is special because we will BBQ almost any critter in the barnyard or from the sea.
    Texas: It's all about beef
    Memphis: It's all about pork
Carolinas: It's all about pork too.
Kansas City: Beef, pork, chicken, lamb, salmon and other fish… You can order that every day at JackStack. 😃

  14. Since this was filmed, Rob Magee, the owner of Q39, died in December 2021. The longtime owner and founder of LC's BBQ, LC Richardson, died too in February 2021.

There's some mighty fine BBQ in Heaven right now.

  15. Arthur Bryants is the best IMO, love the paprika in the sauce. Then Joes and Jackstack are great too.

  17. OMG. What a great episode. Food looks good but the characters with their passion makes the BBQ look so much better.

  18. How did you miss Jack Stack? That's a top 3 BBQ joint in KC. But you did get Q39 and that my friends is BBQ bliss. #1 in KC which makes it #1 in the world and it ain't even close. Then KC Joes, then Jack Stack. Gates is good, but i'll never eat there again. You better know what the hell you want when you walk in the door and good luck translating the menu for first timers. To go Gates as a first timer, you HAVE to go with someone that's experienced at going there. Staff is rude as fuck. They are very, hurry the fuck up and order and move along. Good Q, but just not worth it. Author Bryant's can move down to Texas also, they can have that slop. Just not good. Their BBQ sauce is also gross.
