  1. This bookends my 97 Summer. I missed West coast shows but saw everything else. I've traveled for multiple shows all over but 97 was the most shows in a row. I remember all the wonderful friends I meet along the way, starting at Rest area after Further festival show, Starman and Cassi form Ned, Through Kesey who then danced with us at Darian before going on stage and I later helped with Kesey both on Further fest tour, then the Vermont crew who after Darian I Jumped into their RV with 12 others at the time. We stopped in Burlington picked up 2 more who were caravan and car broke down then for an added bonus as I was appreciating the long winding, white picket fence road for Sunrise up front with Bear driving a gut puts his hand up and joinded us. HE had been on trail for 3 months and had no clue who Phis was but was all in. Having acquired a mail order along the way I gleefully interacted with the ticket takers while hidden compartments got a few others in.
Once there it was "free for all" Mounties kept a good distance and no one else was there. Still prototyping the modern festival, it was vert novel and exciting. Lots of other fun festivals since then but even FL 99 or 1st Bonaroo did not create that child on Christmas morning magic for me the way like felt at the Great Went, Yes the summer of the funk Moma Dance, Ghost, Cities and Vultures all on heavy rotation is one of my most treasured points in life. so far. 1 love

  2. I was at Deer Creek and the Went in 1997. Both were amazing. Jumped on in Chicago and finished the summer tour. Far and away, the best two week adventure of my life.
In case you were wondering, yes, it was better being in your 20s back in the 1990s than it is today. My condolences to anyone born in the 21st century.
