  • 4 tablespoons of yellow mustard seeds
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon peppercorns
  • 6 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • 1 liter of vinegar essence
  • 1 liter of water

How to prepare mustard pickles

The preparation is not complicated, but it does require a little patience because the cucumbers must macerate for a few hours. How to do:

  1. Peel the cucumbers and remove the seeds with a spoon. Then cut the cucumbers into quarters lengthwise and cut them into about 5 cm pieces. Also, peel the onion and cut it into half rings.
  2. Put the cucumbers and onions in a bowl, sprinkle with salt and fill the bowl with water to cover completely. Put the cucumbers in the fridge and let them rest for 24 hours.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the mason jars by sterilizing them in boiling water, then letting them dry.
  4. The next day, drain the water and rinse the cucumbers and onions under running water.
  5. Add the spices, sugar and vinegar to a liter of water and bring the mixture to a boil. As soon as the broth has boiled, add the cucumbers and onions and cook for about 5 minutes. If you like your cucumbers softer, a few more minutes, but they should still be slightly al dente.
  6. Then fill the cucumbers with the broth in the jars and seal them tightly.
