Make your own churros – the ingredients

The characteristic of churros is their starry and elongated shape. They also have a golden brown color. For 10 churros you need the following ingredients:

  • salt (1 pinch)
  • butter (75 grams)
  • Flour (110 grams)
  • Oil for frying (1.5 litres)
  • sugar (225 grams)
  • Eggs (3 pieces of medium size)
  • Cinnamon (2 teaspoons)

Preparation – step by step

The base to prepare churros is choux pastry. It is cooked in hot oil and then coated in sugar and cinnamon.

  1. First, salt and butter are boiled in 250 ml of water. Meanwhile, sift the flour, add it and mix it with a wooden spoon. A perforated spoon is particularly suitable for this.
  2. At the next stage, after the water has boiled, the stove is turned off. A white surface should form on the bottom of the pot and the dough should form a ball when it separates from the bottom.
  3. The dough is then poured into a bowl to cool. It is important that you constantly stir while doing this. Then the eggs are added and mixed.
  4. Then heat the oil to 170°C – 180°C in a large saucepan. To achieve the classic elongated shape of churros, it is necessary to use a pastry bag with a star tip.
  5. Fill the dough in this pastry bag and place 3 strips in the hot oil. Then carefully cut the strip with a knife. The churros should be fried for about 4-5 minutes. Don’t forget to spin!
  6. When the churros are fried, remove them. Paper towels are a good surface to drain on.
  7. Then mix the sugar and cinnamon. There the drained churros are rolled up. Now they are edible.
  8. If you prefer chocolate as a filling instead of sugar and cinnamon, you can mix it with a delicious chocolate sauce.
  9. To do this, boil 125 ml of water, 1 pinch of salt and 125 g of sugar in a saucepan. Then add 100 g of cocoa with a whisk. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, and the chocolate dream is ready!
